How we help

UNYA (Urban Native Youth Association)

In 2023, under the leadership of then-President Leland Guttridge, the Yaletown Lions Club began supporting the Urban Native Youth Association (UNYA) to ensure we were making a real impact on local Indigenous bands and communities where help is needed most.

Since partnering with UNYA, we have donated $6,000 last year and $11,000 to date, helping to fund their culturally relevant programs that support Indigenous youth in Vancouver.

Our commitment to UNYA extends beyond donations—we actively engage in their initiatives, including the Bentwood Box Charity Auction, where Indigenous artists create and auction one-of-a-kind bentwood boxes to support UNYA’s Indigenous Youth Centre of Excellence and the Overly Creative Minds (OCM) program. This event raises crucial funds to empower young Indigenous leaders through art, culture, and education.

We are proud to stand alongside UNYA in their mission to uplift Indigenous youth and look forward to continuing our support in meaningful ways.

Elsie Roy Elementary School

Every year, the Yaletown Lions Club donates educational funds to Elsie Roy Elementary School in Yaletown. This has helped upgrade the school’s tech abilities, fund new music and educational programs, and help spread awareness of the importance of giving back to the community to local children. $25,000 was raised and donated to the School in 2019. Total donations to the school since the club’s creation in 2007 is over $200,000! We’re honored to help advance the future of these young potentials.

Yaletown House Seniors Home

Every year the Yaletown Lions Club Donates to the Yaletown House Seniors Facility. This money has gone towards upgrading the interior of the senior’s home, purchasing a new transport bus (below), purchasing a much needed wash tub upgrade, and most recently an upgrade to the home’s courtyard garden.

These improvements greatly help the day to day lives of the seniors living in Yaletown House and increase their overall well being. We are proud to help Yaletown House!

King George Secondary Scholarships

Every year the Yaletown Lions Club donates post secondary scholarships to grade 12 students from King George Secondary School. These students have shown excellence in volunteer work and community support within Yaletown and surrounding neighbourhoods.

Students submit applications and essays and an appointed Lions Club committee chooses the final scholarship recipients. In 2018, $6000 was donated to these well deserved strong community students!

Campaign Sight First

Bringing the gift of sight to those who would otherwise live life in darkness

This outstanding organization through The Lions International Group has helped restore vision and prevent blindness for 27 million people globally! A truly spectacular feat of achievement in bringing eye hospitals, clinics, and personal to areas of the world that can’t normally afford the detailed procedures and medicine needed to treat many curable sight issues.

The Yaletown Lions are proud to donate every year to this amazing world wide group and their global achievements.
